Dog Friendly Beaches

There is no doubt that the Isle of Thanet has some of the most beautiful stretches of sandy beaches in the country.  Many of which welcome dogs all year.  All local beaches allow dogs off the lead for 7 months of the year, from 1 October until 1 May.

In the high season, from 1 May until 30 September, different beaches have different rules:

  • Viking Bay, (the main beach outside The Lookout) unfortunately does not allow dogs on the beach at all during high season, however just past the paddling pool…
  • Louisa Bay allows dogs on a lead between 10am and 6pm from 1 May to 30 September, and off the lead outside these times
  • The footpath out of Broadstairs Harbour carpark towards Stone Bay, allows dogs at all times, all year round, off the lead
  • Stone Bay, the beach past the harbour and jetty, allows dogs off the lead before 10am and after 6pm in high season, but not at all between 10am-6pm
  • Kingsgate Bay, further along the coast towards Margate, allows dogs at all times, all year round, off the lead
  • Dumpton Gap, the next beach along from Louisa Bay towards Ramsgate allows dogs at all times, all year round off the lead. It has ample close-by parking, and a dog-friendly cafe.
